Traditional and luxury vinyl floors are generally made up of synthetic materials constructing 4 layers backing, decorative and wear layers that are laminated together in a high-pressure process to create beautiful, durable waterproof floors. Each factory has some variations and different standards in the way they produce vinyl floors. In general, the bottom layer, backing layer, is made from vinyl foam, a nitrogen gas bubbles that is produced by stirring and heating vinyl resins (polyvinyl chloride), plasticizers, and AZO compound, creating a slurry material that is then installed into a medium, poured on and smoothed out to create the core layer. The medium with the slurry material is then inserted into an oven that is just heated enough for the vinyl resin to absorb the plasticizer and then set to create the core layer gel.

The gel will go through a printing press and is impressed with metal intaglio plates to impress the pattern into the gel creating the decorative layer, then another mix of plasticizer and vinyl resins are applied on the printed gel and run through an oven at a high temperature. In the oven, the vinyl resin absorbs the plasticizer and melts, creating the clear vinyl which is known as the wear layer that protect the pattern in the decorative layer. Depending on the type and pattern of traditional or luxury vinyl, the manufacture is producing, the final material is then formed into sheet, planks or tiles giving you the beautiful, resilient and durable vinyl floors that can be installed anywhere in your home, business or commercial spaces.

LVPs are long narrow vinyl planks that mimic the look, color and the different species available in hardwood and laminate floors. The decorative layer gives each plank an authentic wooden look while the wear layer gives each plank extra protection against damage, scratch and heavy foot traffic. LVPs are not as flexible as traditional vinyl; they’re thicker and more rigid making these beautiful wood looking floors more resilient against damages and heavy foot traffic.
